The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is seeking a motivated CC Foundation and David Chau Fellow to support the museum’s Director’s Office. This role focuses on aiding the museum’s global partnerships, advancing scholarship, and developing and managing LACMA’s collection and programming related to Asian diasporic art, with a special emphasis on artists of Chinese descent. The fellow will gain hands-on experience in curatorial work, collection management, and development, collaborating with departments across LACMA and external stakeholders.
This is a limited-term position with a projected end date of 2.5 years from the hire date.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research & Scholarship: Conduct research on LACMA’s collections, potential acquisitions, and art movements, particularly focused on Asian diasporic artists. Collaborate with experts to deepen knowledge of the collection.
- Collection Management: Assist in caring for and documenting the museum’s collection, including cataloging acquisitions and ensuring proper storage and conservation practices.
- Project Liaison: Serve as a liaison for acquisitions and programming, ensuring smooth communication between the Director’s Office, departments, and global partners.
- Educational Programming: Collaborate on creating educational materials and programs for exhibitions, working with departments like Education and Development to engage diverse audiences.
- Public Engagement: Engage with the public through tours, talks, and social media, presenting the museum’s mission and exhibitions to visitors and donors.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support, including scheduling meetings, creating reports, and organizing project materials.
- Professional Development: Participate in professional development opportunities, such as conferences and networking events, to stay updated on industry trends.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or a related field.
- Experience: Prior museum or gallery experience is preferred but not required. Internship or volunteer experience is acceptable.
- Skills: Strong interest in modern and contemporary art, particularly Asian diasporic and Chinese art, with excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and art history databases like TMS and Airtable is preferred.
- Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Hourly Rate: $26.45 (subject to change)
