Harry Ransom Center Research Fellowships

The Ransom Center Fellowship Program offers 50 fellowships for 2025-2026, providing funding for graduate students, academic faculty, independent researchers, and artists whose projects require substantial use of the Ransom Center’s collections. The fellowships are open to researchers across various disciplines, including literature, photography, film, art, music, and cultural history.

Fellowship Categories:

One- to Two-Month Fellowships: $3,500 per month for projects requiring extended on-site use of collections.
Travel Stipends: $2,000 for projects requiring less than one month of on-site research.
Dissertation Fellowships: $2,000 for graduate students working on in-progress dissertations.

All fellowship recipients who are citizens or residents of countries outside the U.S. will receive an additional one-time stipend of $500 to cover international travel and visa expenses.

Eligibility:

Open to graduate students, academic faculty (current and former), independent researchers, journalists, and artists.
Applicants must have projects requiring significant on-site research at the Ransom Center.
Dissertation fellowships are specifically for doctoral candidates whose dissertations are still in progress.
Past fellowship recipients may reapply with new projects after two full fellowship cycles.

Application Requirements:

Three-Page Proposal:
- Page 1: Summary of the research project, including its significance and anticipated outcome (e.g., article, book).
- Page 2: Detailed description of the Ransom Center’s collections to be used, including specific containers, boxes, or folders.
- Page 3: Abbreviated CV highlighting relevant work, including one external link to a published work, if applicable.
Letters of Recommendation:
- One- to Two-Month Fellowships and Travel Stipends: Two confidential letters.
- Dissertation Fellowships: One letter from a dissertation advisor or committee member.

Timeline:

Program Dates: June 1, 2025 – August 31, 2026 (flexible start dates available).
Decision Notification: April 1, 2025.
