Freelance Curator (60%) – Werk2 Special Exhibition Project

The Museums of Thurgau are seeking a **freelance curator (m/f/d)** to develop and deliver a special cultural-historical exhibition at **Werk2 in Arbon**, starting in June 2025. The exhibition is set to open in May 2026.

Werk2 is a unique cultural venue in a former industrial building that combines historical character with contemporary exhibition capabilities. Its open architecture and raw charm provide an inspiring setting for innovative, creative, and interactive presentations.

About the Position

  • Develop a detailed concept and curate a special exhibition on a theme predetermined by the cantonal museums
  • Collaborate closely with the project management team, an interdisciplinary Sounding Board, and external partners in scenography, graphic design, and exhibition construction
  • Create and prepare digital content as part of the exhibition
  • Develop exhibition texts and materials with clarity and public accessibility
  • Design interactive and participatory elements that enrich the visitor experience
  • Manage the exhibition budget and ensure compliance with financial guidelines

Eligibility

  • Proven curatorial experience, particularly in museums and cultural-historical exhibitions
  • Academic background in history, art history, or related field, ideally with museum-focused continuing education
  • Strong conceptual thinking and ability to collaborate across disciplines
  • Initiative, precision, reliability, and excellent written and spoken German
  • Ability to write clearly, freshly, and in a way that engages diverse audiences
