Full-time Faculty, Design Historian – Art History, Theory and Criticism

The Department of Art History, Theory, and Criticism seeks a Design Historian to fill a full-time, renewable position teaching the history and theory of industrial, product, and graphic design in a department that offers courses to undergraduate and graduate students. We are especially looking for candidates who can teach both general and specific courses in these areas of material culture across a broad topical, chronological, and geographical range. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about teaching studio art and art history majors and will engage in new modes of teaching instruction such as hybrid or online courses.

The faculty position will teach 18 credits per year (three courses per semester) at an art school nationally known for its dedication to teaching excellence, a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and the importance of the fine arts

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field no later than Spring of 2017 (MA required, PhD preferred)
  • Demonstrated commitment to and enthusiasm for teaching studio art and humanities students at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Minimum two years of full-time teaching experience at the college level beyond graduate assistantships, or commensurate experience in a museum context
  • Candidate must successfully complete a full background check
