Antony Gormley Studio is made up of a lively and wide-ranging group of individuals with a common aim of extending the language of sculpture and making it available to a wider world.
The Gallery and Communications Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the high standards set by the Studio in its relationships with commercial galleries, art fairs and auction houses. The role also includes a core communications element, overseeing the Studio’s media presence.
Duties/responsibilities
GALLERIES & COMMERCIAL
Commercial galleries
The role acts as the primary contact for Antony’s galleries to –
- Maintain gallery relationships, acting at all times with commercial discretion.
- Respond to enquiries and coordinate the provision of information in relation to Antony and the work.
- Consign works for inventory and institutional loans, including –
- Monitoringinventoryrequests
- Agreeing sub-consignments and terms
- Working with AGS team on the preparation and scheduling of shipments
- Agree selection of works for public sales listings sites.
- Attain key sales, exhibition and provenance information for the Studio’s record and archive.
- Monitor gallery information on Antony in the public domain.
- Provide insurance valuations for projects and exhibitions.
- Monitor sales records and ensure pricing and discount policies are adhered to.
Art Fairs
Oversee the coordinated presence of works at art fairs, physical and digital –
- Maintain a calendar of key dates in relation to art fairs.
- Coordinate the presence of works at fairs from all of Antony’s galleries.
- Agree selection of works, placement and, with the wider AGS team, installation method.
- Proof art fair documentation, publicity, and marketing.
- Ensure Studio standard photography of any solo presentations.
Auctions
- Further the development of relationships with major auction houses.
- Work closely with auction houses and the Studio Registrar on –
- The display of Antony’s works
- Managingcleaningandrestorationrequests
- Agree a provisional estimate for works.
- Proof auction catalogue entries and provide text as required.
- Source auction results.
- Monitor Artnet listings and the provision of DACS income.
- Work with auction houses to source details of buyers for provenance records.
COMMUNICATIONS
PR and Marketing
- Oversee the delivery of the Studio’s communication strategy, ensuring it is linked to wider Studio objectives–
- Align the various Studio campaigns and coverage so they remain coordinated.
- Oversee the promotion of exhibitions, art fairs, auctions, publications and special projects:
- Discuss marketing and PR aims with Antony, including interviews and interpretative materials.
- Schedule interviews, photocalls, and filming commitments, and brief all parties.
- Book, oversee design, and proof advertising, invitations and marketing materials for projects and exhibitions within required timeframes.
- Work with commercial galleries and external supporters to maximise promotion of the work –
- Communicate upcoming events, projects and exhibitions in a timely manner, including managing Mailchimp mailouts.
- Monitor third party promotional channels, provide content and proof materials as required.
- Respond to media requests.
- Ensure the Studio receives copies of publicity and marketing materials (including print, film and audio etc.) as required by Antony for the Studio archive.
- Monitor Google Alerts in relation to Antony and the work.
Website
- Oversee the optimisation of the website for mobile –
- Write brief, oversee engagement and delivery process.
- Contribute to site’s performance monitoring and evaluation by establishing meaningful data analytics and reporting.
- Implement strategies for increasing traffic to the Studio’s website, including –
- Improve links through to the Studio website from external sources
- RegularlyupdatecontenttoensurecurrentStudioactivitiesarerepresented
- Understanding of SEO to ensure content is optimised for discovery on relevant topics.
Social Media
- Monitor the delivery of the Studio’s social media strategy to manage key messaging around the work –
- Work with others to build digital profile, experiences, and content to maximise engagement and conversion –
- Monitor gallery and social media accounts
- Provide and proof content to third parties as required
- Capture and archive important events as required for the Studio archive.
- Monitor and report on social media presence.
- Work across the organisation to ensure the Studio’s internal social media policies are adhered to.
- Work with others to build digital profile, experiences, and content to maximise engagement and conversion –
Exhibition Catalogues
- Notify galleries of forthcoming titles and facilitate the purchase of copies via the publisher.
- Ensure galleries hold copies of relevant publications in stock in advance of commercial exhibitions.
Person specification
EXPERIENCE
- At least 5 years’ experience working in arts administration for an artist, gallery, museum, or auction house.
- Demonstrable experience of building commercial relationships within the art world.
- Excellent knowledge of contemporary art, art institutions, and the art market.
- Proven public relations experience within a creative or cultural industry, preferably with working knowledge of design and print production.
- Strong understanding of SEO and content optimisation.
- Previous experience in website optimisation preferable.
SKILLS
- Excellent organisation and administration skills and impeccable attention to detail.
- Excellent English language communication skills and accuracy.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, while remaining calm under pressure.
- Good negotiation skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy and discretion.
- Ability to prioritise workload and adapt quickly to the different aspects of the role.
- Resilient, responsible and hard working.
- Excellent IT skills, with proven experience with the full Microsoft Office suite with knowledge of Filemaker, Adobe suite and intermediate video editing skills preferable.
The role is full time, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, with some overtime required.
This role is full-time role, pay commensurate with experience: £33-£40K.
