Zeit Contemporary Art is looking for a motivated, well-organized Gallery Assistant. This role involves sales and advisory services in modern, postwar, and contemporary art, with a focus on European and American art from 1900 to the present. It’s an exciting opportunity for those passionate about the art world and experienced in art dealership operations.

About Zeit Contemporary Art

Founded in 2016, Zeit Contemporary Art focuses on understanding art as a cultural object that defines its time and space. They curate exhibitions and viewing rooms, featuring contemporary artists and historically focused projects. The gallery participates in prominent art fairs in the US and abroad and conducts private sales of museum-quality works. They help collectors navigate the art world.

Key Responsibilities

Client and Communication Management:
  • Handle phone calls and messages from clients and third parties.
  • Dispatch emails to clients, consignors, artists, and vendors.
  • Forward client emails to the appropriate recipients.
  • Address client requests efficiently.
Operational Duties:
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Organize participation in trade fairs.
  • Arrange fine art insurance coverage for works in storage, consignment, loan, exhibition, or transit.
  • Oversee exhibitions, installations, publications, and online viewing rooms.
  • Book and arrange travel, transport, and accommodation.
  • Maintain and update inventory databases.
Customer Service:
  • Greet visitors at the office, gallery, art fairs, and other locations.
  • Complete customer service tasks, including order placement and explaining artworks and services.
Administrative Tasks:
  • Handle business correspondence.
  • Write press releases and introductions to exhibitions or online viewing room projects.
  • Research and write entries for artworks.
  • Create and manage social media campaigns.
Team Coordination:
  • Communicate effectively with management, employees, and contractors.
  • Assist with proposals for clients as directed by the CEO.

Qualifications

  • B.A. in Art History required; M.A. preferred, especially in Art Business and Arts Administration.
  • Expertise in 20th and 21st-century European and American art.
  • Exceptional English communication and writing skills.
  • Advanced skills in Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the art market or nonprofit art organizations.
  • Proficient in social media within the creative industry.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of historical and emerging artists and their market.
  • Interest in the financial aspects of the art market.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills.

Compensation

Zeit Contemporary Art offers $20/hour for a 30-hour per week schedule. This position provides opportunities for growth within the company.
