Hours: Part-time, 32 hours across four days per week; usually Tuesday–Friday, 10:00–18:00
Salary: £30,000 per annum, equivalent to £37,500 pro rata

Matt’s Gallery is seeking a proactive and highly organised Gallery Manager to support its exhibitions, artists and day-to-day operations.
Reporting to the Director and Deputy Director, the Gallery Manager will work within a small team across exhibition production, artist liaison, administration, communications, sales and building operations.
About the Role
The Gallery Manager will coordinate the gallery’s programme and support its represented and exhibiting artists. Responsibilities range from managing exhibition logistics, loans and consignments to maintaining artist records, administering sales and supporting touring opportunities and partnerships.
The role also encompasses website and newsletter administration, social media, press contacts, funding support, trustee administration and the maintenance of physical and digital archives.
Occasional evening and weekend work will be required, with time off in lieu or overtime pay provided for additional hours.
Responsibilities
The Gallery Manager will:
- Manage exhibitions, the artistic programme and relationships with represented and exhibiting artists;
- Coordinate artwork consignments, loans and touring exhibitions;
- Maintain accurate information about represented artists and available works;
- Help identify and administer touring and partnership opportunities;
- Administer sales of artworks, editions and publications;
- Maintain and archive artist and exhibition records in physical and digital formats;
- Support the administration of the Board of Trustees;
- Help update gallery policies and contribute to reports and funding initiatives;
- Administer the gallery’s website, newsletters and social media;
- Promote the gallery, its artists and their projects;
- Maintain press contacts and manage programme listings;
- Respond to public, professional and venue-hire enquiries;
- Coordinate exhibition installation logistics;
- Support building management and health and safety compliance;
- Help recruit and oversee trainees;
- Prepare rotas for freelance invigilators and technicians; and
- Provide front-of-house and practical support during exhibitions and events.
Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A degree or higher qualification in Art, Art History, Arts Management, Curating or a related subject;
- At least two years of experience working with exhibition production, artists and galleries in the public or private sector;
- Strong knowledge of contemporary visual art and an interest in Matt’s Gallery’s programme and ethos;
- Knowledge of contemporary art organisations in the UK and internationally, including public, private and artist-run spaces;
- Experience providing administrative and practical support for artists and exhibitions;
- Familiarity with the everyday operation of a contemporary art gallery;
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills;
- The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities;
- A proactive and self-directed approach;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- An understanding of the UK’s public and private arts-funding environment;
- Strong IT skills, including experience with Mac OS, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Workspace, email marketing and social media platforms; and
- The ability to work independently while adapting to established systems and procedures.
A postgraduate qualification in Art, Art History, Arts Management, Curating or a related subject, a driving licence and experience working within an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation would be advantageous.
