Overview:
The Gardiner Museum in Toronto invites proposals for its annual Curatorial Residency. This program offers emerging curators an opportunity to conceive, research, and produce an exhibition focusing on ceramics or clay-related works. Proposals should integrate the Gardiner’s permanent collection and reflect contemporary relevance with innovative scholarship.
The Residency includes a travel component (2–4 weeks) for research and professional growth, followed by full-time work at the Gardiner Museum (16–18 weeks) to develop the exhibition and contribute to curatorial operations. Residents will also present their work through public programming and online content.
Eligibility:
- Open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
- Applicants must be enrolled in or have recently completed Master’s/PhD programs in Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies, or Art History, or have independent/community-based curatorial experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to visual arts and exhibition contexts is required, though prior experience with ceramics is not mandatory.
Residency Highlights:
- Travel & Research: $7,000 CAD allocated for international research travel.
- Exhibition Production: $20,000 CAD budget managed by the Museum for exhibition-related expenses.
