Overview
The Gwaertler Grant supports emerging practitioners in all arts disciplines. It aims to foster projects that create a tangible impact within their context. The grant can fund a variety of activities, including:
- Archival research
- Connecting with professionals from other fields
- Fieldwork and cross-cultural collaboration
- Conducting interviews, taking courses, and organizing workshops
- Experimenting with new techniques or voluntary apprenticeships
- Durational exercises and more
To Apply
Please fill in the form and upload your document (one PDF, maximum three pages). Applications will be confirmed via email. Note the following:
- Applicants may submit only one application per year.
- Successful applicants may reapply only after two years.
- Projects cannot be resubmitted in subsequent cycles if previously submitted, whether selected or not.
The PDF should include:
- A description of your project (up to 500 words)
- Examples of previous work
- A rough budget
- A brief CV (with relevant links)
Deadline: 15 May 2025, 6 PM (Switzerland). The jury’s decision will be emailed within four months after the deadline.
Please Note: The grant does not cover the acquisition of hardware, tools, or equipment. The Gwaertler Stiftung is not obliged to provide funding.
Jury
The allocation of funding is decided by a rotating, independent jury composed of experienced arts professionals from various disciplines. Jury members include:
- Heba Y. Amin, visual artist, researcher, and professor at ABK Stuttgart
- Phanuel Antwi, curator, researcher, and professor at the University of British Columbia, Canada
- Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide), visual artist and filmmaker, professor at HKB Braunschweig
- Övül Ö. Durmusoglu, curator, writer, and professor at Braunschweig University of Art (HBK)
- Itamar Gov, interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin, Paris, and Bologna
- Paz Guevara, researcher, author, and curator at HKW, Berlin, and lecturer at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin
- Tamar Guimarães, artist based in Copenhagen
- Hanna Hartman, sound artist, composer, and performer based in Berlin
- Hannah Hurtzig, artist, dramaturge, and director of Mobile Akademie Berlin
- Lina Majdalanie, performer, director, and playwright based in Berlin
- Lemohang Mosese, filmmaker and visual artist based in Berlin
- Andrea Neumann, musician, composer, and professor at University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), Basel
- Davide Oberto, film curator based in Torino
- Eszter Salamon, choreographer, artist, and performer, working between Berlin, Paris, and Budapest
- Wendelien van Oldenborgh, film and video maker, teaching at University of the Arts (HfK) Bremen
- Joanna Warsza, art curator, editor, and programme director of CuratorLab, Konstfack University of Arts, Stockholm
