Head Curator at the MacKenzie Art Gallery

MacKenzie Art Gallery is seeking a Head Curator to lead its curatorial team and guide the development of exhibitions, collection projects and publications. Reporting to the Director of Programs, the successful candidate will help set long-term curatorial priorities and support the gallery’s relationships with artists, communities and partner institutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise and mentor the curatorial team.
- Develop strategies for exhibitions and the collection in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Originate and deliver exhibitions, including budgets, schedules, contracts and related public programmes.
- Oversee curatorial contributions to collection development, acquisitions, research and interpretation.
- Produce or oversee publications and other interpretive materials.
- Support grant proposals and build relationships with artists, lenders, collectors and partner organisations.
- Represent the gallery through talks, tours and professional networks.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should have graduate-level education and extensive knowledge of art and artists in Canada, at least seven years of curatorial experience, and at least five years of experience supervising professional staff.
The role requires a strong record of museum exhibitions, strategic leadership, editorial and publishing experience, and a commitment to equity and accessibility. Knowledge of Indigenous rights and culturally sensitive approaches to collections is also relevant to the position.
