Overview of the Role – Benefits of the Experience
The Head Curator, International Art, leads the curatorial team in driving major transformations at the National Gallery. This position requires extensive knowledge of art history and strong museum connections. It involves managing the gallery’s international art collection and related programs. The role includes advising on, researching, and developing curated content that aligns with the gallery’s creative vision. It ensures the gallery rethinks art from various geographies and perspectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain excellence in collection documentation, recordkeeping, provenance, and research.
- Translate the gallery’s vision into priorities for the International Art Department. This includes acquisition, exhibition, interpretation, publication, display, conservation, and advocacy efforts.
- Support the Deputy Director and senior leaders to achieve strategic decisions and organizational goals.
- Requires the ability to travel extensively both nationally and internationally and to attend functions outside of regular hours.

Reporting and Team Management
Reports directly to the Deputy Director and oversees several direct reports.
