Overview
The Head of Exhibitions at Whitechapel Gallery in London, a part of the senior management team, plays a critical role in aligning the work of artists and audiences with the gallery’s mission. The individual will work under the guidance of Director Gilane Tawadros.
Role Description
This dynamic leadership position requires extensive experience in curating, exhibition-making, and delivery. The individual will oversee the strategic and daily management of the Exhibitions team. Collaboration with artists, external curators, and partners both locally and internationally is key. A passion for making contemporary art accessible to diverse audiences is essential.
Responsibilities
The role involves in-depth involvement in artistic practice and institutional roles in society. The candidate must have strong knowledge and experience in curating and managing projects and budgets. This position is part of the senior leadership team, contributing significantly to the exhibition’s programme and partnerships.
Working Conditions
- Contract: Permanent
- Hours: Full-time, 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 5:45pm
- Salary: £40,000-£50,000 per annum, based on experience
- Additional Requirements: Evening and weekend work, occasional travel with compensatory time off
- Notice Period: Three months
- Probation Period: Six months
