Position Summary
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is seeking a visionary Head of Live Arts to lead its dynamic Live Arts Department. This role focuses on presenting innovative and diverse performance programs that intersect with the museum’s universal collections and exhibitions. It includes classical, folk, global, and popular music, as well as newly commissioned site-specific and hybrid works. The incumbent will work across multiple Museum sites, fostering collaboration with curatorial, development, and programming teams while engaging with diverse audiences in New York City and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the production of 50+ performances annually, including ideation, budgeting, marketing, and execution.
- Lead a team of staff, interns, and vendors, fostering professional development opportunities.
- Develop innovative programs that reflect the Museum’s collections and champion diverse voices.
- Cultivate relationships with donors, supporters, artists, and local cultural institutions.
- Analyze program profitability and ensure financial sustainability while meeting revenue goals.
- Manage partnerships with NYC cultural institutions to co-organize and cross-promote programs.
Qualifications
- MA or PhD in Arts Administration, Performance Art, Art History, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in leadership roles within arts or education institutions.
- Proven ability to manage staff, budgets, and large-scale events.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA).
- Technical proficiency with production technologies and project management software.
