Responsibilities
- Programme Leadership: Lead Site Gallery’s programme team in developing and delivering a cohesive, year-round artistic programme of exhibitions, engagement, and participation.
- Resource Generation: Generate resources for the artistic programme through fundraising, collaborations, and partnerships.
- Sector Connectivity: Research and establish connections within the contemporary visual art sector to promote best practices and innovation.
Key Tasks
- Exhibition Development: Research and propose exhibition concepts that resonate with local audiences, exhibit creativity, and attract partnerships and collaborations.
- Programme Expansion: Lead the team in creating a comprehensive program of events, talks, performances, and workshops to enhance visitor experiences, engage new audiences, and connect with communities.
- Artist Support: Provide equitable and accessible opportunities for artists, including commissioning, employment, residencies, and professional development.
- Artistic Collaboration: Work closely with artists, offering specialized support to help them realize their ambitions and create impactful experiences for audiences.
- Audience Development: Contribute to audience development planning, including text creation for exhibitions and events, marketing, press, and online content.
- Resource Acquisition: Identify potential funders, financial partners, or touring partners, develop proposals, and secure funds and resources for program realization.
- Income Generation: Identify opportunities for exhibition-related limited editions, merchandise, or publishing to raise income for the charity.
- Budget Management: Carefully manage budgets, ensuring they are well-researched, realistic, and accurate. Devise scenario plans and allocate resources for projects in development.
- Impact Evaluation: Evaluate program activity to deepen the understanding of Site Gallery’s work and inform future programming.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain relationships with artists, peer organizations, funders, and stakeholders, advocating for Site Gallery in various networks.
- Curatorial Excellence: Ensure curatorial excellence across all aspects of the creative program through ongoing research and learning.
- Leadership: Provide effective leadership for the program team, supporting talent development and setting organizational and personal expectations.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Chief Executive and senior management team to develop and implement business, strategic, and artistic plans, along with policies and action plans.
- Board Engagement: Attend Board meetings, presenting and providing briefings on artistic programs.
- Duty Management: Provide occasional Duty Management cover during operating hours, out-of-hours events, and weekend coverage.
- Other Duties: Perform any other duties relevant to the role.
Skills, Knowledge, and Behavior
We are looking for an ambitious, creative individual passionate about connecting audiences to art and artists. You must be committed to platforming underrepresented voices and promote creativity and collaboration.
- Strong organizational skills and experience with exhibition development
- Proficient in project management, planning, budget control, and negotiation
- MA-level degree in contemporary art curation or equivalent professional experience
- Deep knowledge of contemporary art practices and artist support
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Fundraising skills and a willingness to develop them
- Ability to connect with diverse audiences
