Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia is Seeking a Head of Public Programs
A selection process is announced to fill one position as non-unionized staff at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, with the job title of Head of Public Programs, assigned to the museum’s Artistic Deputy Directorate, through an open competition.
The selection process will be carried out through a competitive examination.
Functions
- To program, plan, and coordinate an annual schedule of public activities and live arts aligned with the Museum’s lines of work.
- To lead and supervise the development of the Museum’s public and live arts programming.
- To conduct ongoing research on new trends and practices in contemporary thought, contemporary art, and live arts both locally and internationally.
- To actively promote the establishment of links, partnerships, and co-productions of public and live arts programs with relevant institutions on a local, national, and international level, as well as with other public and private entities.
- To maintain a network of relationships with other national and international museums, artists, researchers, and other cultural agents.
- To plan the department’s budget according to available resources and aligned with the goals of the department and the Artistic Deputy Directorate.
- To collaborate with the Institutional Cabinet in sourcing funding for the annual public and live arts program.
- To prepare reports required by the Museum or the Ministry of Culture regarding the activities under their responsibility.
- To collaborate with the departments of Exhibitions, Collections, Library and Documentation Center, Conservation, and the Directorate of Studies to develop the department’s annual programming.
- To coordinate and supervise the correct technical implementation and management of the department’s programs and activities.
- To supervise and guide the work of their team to ensure that all projects meet the set objectives with the highest level of quality.
- To participate in general and organizational tasks of the department as required by the Artistic Deputy Director.
- To supervise the creation of informational materials, in coordination with the Communications Directorate, to ensure accurate and timely dissemination.
- To coordinate and supervise proper audiovisual documentation, archiving, and statistical recording of the department’s public programming.
- To carry out any other functions arising from or related to the above, as specifically assigned by the Artistic Deputy Director or the Museum Director.
Requirements
To be admitted to the selection process, applicants must, on the closing date for applications and at the time of contract signing, meet the following requirements:

Hold Spanish nationality or be a national of a European Union member state. Regardless of nationality, the spouse of Spanish nationals or EU citizens may also apply, provided they are not legally separated. Their dependents under 21 years of age (or older if dependent) may also apply under the same conditions. Also eligible are individuals covered under international treaties ratified by Spain involving the free movement of workers, and non-EU foreign nationals who have legal residence in Spain.

Possess the physical and functional capacity to perform the required tasks.

Be at least sixteen years of age and not exceed the mandatory retirement age.

Not have been dismissed through disciplinary action from any public administration or constitutional/statutory body of an autonomous community, nor be disqualified from public employment or similar functions by judicial ruling. In the case of foreign nationals, they must not be subject to equivalent disqualification or disciplinary sanctions preventing public employment in their country.

Possess, or be in a position to obtain by the application deadline, one of the degrees listed in Annex II: Licenciatura or Grado.
Applicants with degrees obtained abroad must hold the corresponding official recognition or equivalency certificate. This requirement does not apply to those who have had their professional qualifications recognized under EU regulations in the context of regulated professions.
Application Submission and Documentation
- Applications must be completed and submitted electronically via the Museo Reina Sofía’s official online portal at: https://museoreinasofia.sede.gob.es. Submissions must follow the telematic procedure established for this call, in accordance with Law 39/2015 of October 1. Therefore, applications and any subsequent corrections or appeals must be submitted electronically, as outlined in the first additional provision of Royal Decree 203/2021 of March 30, which regulates public sector operations through electronic means.
- Once completed, the application must be signed electronically using one of the approved signature methods and submitted via the established process. It will be considered officially submitted only once this process is completed and a submission receipt is obtained. This receipt must be retained by the applicant as proof of submission within the required timeframe and format.
- Only in cases of technical or IT issues, duly justified, will applications be accepted through other official channels (registries, post offices, Spanish consular offices, or other methods allowed under Article 16.4 of Law 39/2015). In such cases, applicants must use the application form found in Annex V.
- Applicants must attach supporting documentation proving they meet the requirements. Applicants with a certified disability of 33% or more who require time and/or resource accommodations must submit a Technical Expert Report issued by the competent Evaluation Body, as outlined in Order PRE/1822/2006 of June 9, which establishes general criteria for such accommodations in public hiring processes.

Annual Salary: Base salary + extra payments: €50,519.14
Productivity bonus: may not exceed 15% of the authorized base salary.
