The Helsinki International Artist Residency Program, known as HIAP, offers international arts professionals the chance to pursue creative endeavors, conduct research, and engage in interdisciplinary dialogue.

HIAP Residency Program (2024)
HIAP invites artists and art practitioners worldwide to apply for a 3-month residency in Suomenlinna and Cable Factory for 2024. This international open call is for non-Finnish artists.
Residency Focus
While the HIAP Residency Program emphasizes visual art, it is open to art professionals from diverse disciplines. The program provides time and support for developing new work in collaboration with the local art scene. Residents can use their time for open-ended research and experimentation without the obligation to produce a final piece of work.
Accommodation Details
Suomenlinna Atelier Apartments:
- Approx. 80 sqm
- Furnished
- Working space downstairs
- Separate living space upstairs (sleeping area, bathroom, kitchenette, loft)
- Accommodates 2-4 persons
Cable Factory Live/Work Studios:
- 63 sqm
- Furnished
- Combined working and living area with kitchenette, sleeping loft, private bathroom
- Suitable for two adults or a small family
Please note that pets are not allowed in any of the apartments.
Residency Details
Artists and art practitioners can apply for the 3-month residencies. There are no financial obligations, fees, working grants, travel funding, or production budgets involved.
Available Residency Periods for 3-Month Residencies:
- Winter: 8 January – 7 April 2024 at HIAP Suomenlinna
- Spring: 15 April – 15 July 2024 at HIAP Suomenlinna or HIAP Cable Factory
HIAP will grant four 3-month residencies through this open call. The residents will be selected by Farbod Fakharzadeh and Riikka Thitz in collaboration with HIAP Director Juha Huuskonen. Farbod Fakharzadeh and Riikka Thitz are independent curators in residence at HIAP Suomenlinna from Sept 2023 to July 2024.
