Hydrofeminist Practices Residency
Deadline: 31 May 2025
Location: Massiaru, Estonia
Location: Massiaru, Estonia
Hydrofeminist Practices is an interdisciplinary residency dedicated to hydrofeminism in all its forms, curated by Zoë De Luca Legge and hosted by MASSIA (Massiaru, Estonia) from 7-13 July 2025 for a maximum of 12 participants.
Hydrofeminism combines transfeminism, queer studies, ecological philosophy and post-structuralist theory to critique the separations between nature, culture, gender and identity, proposing an ethics based on fluid and interdependent relationality. Viewing bodies as made of water and in constant exchange with the world, it ascribes to water an active and vital role in the construction of new practices of care, solidarity, and ecopolitical imagination.
Artists, curators, performers, art practitioners, writers, and scholars whose work embraces this field of research are invited to participate in the residency program by proposing a practice that reflects their experience and can be shared with, or actively carried out by, the whole of the group. Workshops, performances, discussion circles, readings and screenings, ceremonies and rituals – everything is welcome, as long as it is shareable, accessible, and can be easily organized within the spaces of MASSIA or the surrounding area.
Located in a historic 1930s school nestled in a herb garden, MASSIA is a user-created informal residency, a space for creating and learning, connecting, sharing and enabling alternatives. Activities planned so far include reading groups, deep listening sessions, swamp visits, guided meditations, and pond baths.
Hydrofeminist Practices is self-funded, as travel and stay must be covered by participants.
Accommodation is in shared rooms, meals & houskeeping will be managed collectively.
