Scholarship Program Overview
Wiener Festwochen invites artists and cultural workers from Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Hungary to apply for 15 scholarships. The program, In the Field, offers a ten-day experience aimed at fostering transregional networking and knowledge exchange. This initiative aligns with the international theater festival’s ethos, especially under the new artistic direction of Milo Rau.
Program Focus
The focus is on early-career artists and cultural workers at the art-activism intersection. The festival serves as a utopian space challenging established norms and attitudes. It encourages critical discourse on art’s role in society, addressing key questions about inclusivity, values, festival dynamics, economic constraints, ecological sustainability, and the future of art festivals.
Mentorship and Activities
Gin Müller, a renowned director, theatre scholar, and activist, will mentor this year’s program. Participants will engage in daily activities, including attending performances and workshops, which encourage the sharing of experiences and skills. The collaboration with brut Wien highlights local cultural developments, connecting participants with Vienna’s cultural key figures.
