Role Summary
The British Museum seeks a Keeper of Asia, a senior specialist to lead and manage the Department of Asia. This position requires an academic expert with distinction in a relevant field, overseeing curatorial and academic responsibilities while ensuring the collection’s safety, care, and increased public engagement. The Keeper will mentor and inspire a diverse team of curators and staff, working collaboratively with departments across the Museum and representing the institution nationally and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety, security, and appropriate care of the collection.
- Lead the development of research and public engagement strategies.
- Recruit, develop, and mentor curators and staff, promoting career growth and succession planning.
- Collaborate with Museum departments to curate and document the collection.
- Build partnerships and represent the Museum to academic peers, museum partners, governments, and communities.
- Advocate for the Museum locally and globally.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
- International recognition as a scholar in a relevant field.
- Strong management and leadership experience with high-performance teams.
- Proven collaboration and negotiation skills within complex organisations.
- Exceptional communication and organisational abilities, diplomatic under pressure.
