Overview
The Learning Assistant role plays a key role in supporting and working across all elements of the Learning programmes, from the research stage through to completion. This includes a particular focus on the 13th festival edition, and the organisation and delivery of community-led projects with artists, along with a free, year-round programme of resources, events, and opportunities for families, communities, schools, universities, and peers.

Main Duties
Learning Support
- Assist the Curator of Learning in administering and operationally delivering the learning programme.
- Serve as a primary contact for participants in learning-related events or projects.
- Help prepare and deliver workshops and events, including those for families and schools, as well as public programmes and live works as needed.
- Organise and maintain learning materials and resources, ensuring partners and sponsors receive appropriate credit in all communications.
- Occasionally lead creative workshops, tours, or events at venues.
- Research and foster new and existing relationships with community groups and individuals in the Liverpool City Region.
- Coordinate with artists and their representatives, relaying any feedback or queries to the Curator of Learning.
- Promote the Liverpool Biennial to community groups, schools, and colleges as needed, ensuring compliance with safeguarding and health and safety policies.
- Collaborate with the Programme team to prepare research and resources related to exhibition artists and works for schools, families, young people, and other visitors.
- Ensure smooth information flow across all departments and contribute to the documentation and evaluation of all Learning projects.
Administration
- Manage accommodations, travel, and other logistics for visiting artists and participants.
- Handle day-to-day learning programme administration, including project planning and tracking.
- Research and book venues for off-site meetings, workshops, events, and exhibitions.
- Assist in developing workshop plans and schedules, and organise event materials and refreshments in advance.
- Aid in the fabrication of new commissions by sourcing materials or equipment as required.
- Maintain contact lists in compliance with GDPR, and manage participant forms and feedback.
- Arrange meetings and handle related documents, agendas, and minutes.
- Process financial documents and liaise with the finance team on related matters.
- Support budget management for the learning programme and provide regular reports.
- Work with the marketing team to ensure educational work is documented and visible across various platforms.
Miscellaneous
- Participate in training and professional development as required.
- Ensure compliance with DBS requirements for all project participants and artists.
- Represent the Biennial at public events and meetings as needed.
- Work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, with time off in lieu.
- Support Liverpool Biennial’s evaluation efforts and gather participant feedback as needed.
Person Specification
Essential
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a visual arts learning or engagement role.
- Proven ability to facilitate workshops or creative tasks for diverse audiences.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Experience in project and budget administration.
- Effective time management and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and Safeguarding requirements.
- Team player with a commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
- Enhanced DBS certification or the ability to obtain one.
Desirable
- Degree in visual arts or a related field.
- Public-facing communication skills and experience with non-gallery-based projects.
- Familiarity with the Liverpool City Region and Liverpool Biennial.
- Experience with hybrid or digital programmes or events.
