Do you have a track-record of ambitious research led practice that explores curating and art practice in the challenging global context? Do you possess experience of and a commitment to teaching contemporary Fine Art and curatorial practice in critically-informed ways? 

The School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies (FAHACS) is seeking an outstanding individual committed to ambitious scholarly and curatorial projects in contemporary art, whose research challenges the Euro-centric model through an engagement with critical cultural theories and histories. Your research and teaching contest the theoretical and political dimensions of curatorial practice in contemporary art, especially when and where global and regional contexts confront each other. With this appointment, the School seeks to extend its renowned critical engagements in fine art practice, adding research attuned to the regionally specific global dynamics of art production and curation. You should have an astute awareness of the challenging geo-political context, and of the mediating and intervening roles that curation and art practices play. Familiarity with the language(s) of the specialised region is expected.

FAHACS is a recognised leader in research and research-led teaching in Fine Art, History of Art, Cultural and Museum Studies. We offer a unique combination of programmes centred on the encounter between historical, cultural and theoretical analysis of art, museum and heritage studies and fine art practice, and have longstanding preoccupations with feminist, postcolonial and the social histories of art. Willing to displace the geopolitical and chronological models that have mapped the art of the world into nations or periods, your research will be absorbed with theoretical and practical questions concerning the tensions between visibility and intelligibility within contemporary artistic practices from within a specific region of Asia, yet attuned to the global dynamics active within this region. You will join an experienced, innovative and diverse team to teach across our core undergraduate and postgraduate Fine Art, Art Gallery, Heritage and Museum Studies programmes, and may teach on options available to students across the School, in addition to supervising PhD students. You will also be actively involved in research, producing high quality research outputs and contributing to the School’s Research Excellence Framework (REF).

You will have achieved professional experience and standing as a practitioner and/or curator, nationally and internationally, demonstrating an enthusiasm for and record of research-led teaching. In addition, you will have experience of and commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching that contributes to the priorities set for a Leeds curriculum that aims to foster global awareness amongst its students and deepen their sense of social responsibility.
