Job Purpose
After the significant expansion of its programmes, the Media Culture and Society group, based in the School of Social and Political Sciences, is recruiting multiple Lectureships at Grades 7 and 8.
The postholders will contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by contributing to teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the areas of the sociology of media, media and democracy, digital media and media and society. They will contribute to learning and teaching and scholarship on agreed programmes and undertake administration and service activities in line with the School/College’s strategic objectives.
Colleagues will undertake research of international excellence and contribute to knowledge exchange activities relative to the discipline and contribute to learning and teaching on agreed programmes and undertake administration and service activities in line with the School/College’s strategic objectives.
For appointment at Grade 8, a substantial contribution will include leading high quality research activities and delivering, organising and reviewing key areas of teaching and learning within the School.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and advance individual or collaborative research projects of international quality, with mentorship where needed.
- Prepare research findings for publication in leading journals, and contribute to funding applications independently or as part of a team.
- Enhance the research profile of the School/College through high-quality publications.
- Plan, organize, and deliver teaching for undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses, including course coordination.
- Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring a research-led approach to learning and assessment.
- Participate in examinations and assessment processes, providing timely feedback to support student learning.
- Advance theory and practice in the relevant subject area.
- Supervise undergraduate/postgraduate projects and contribute to the supervision of research students.
- Undertake administrative or management roles as assigned by the Head of School.
- Engage in professional development activities as appropriate.
- Support the University’s international profile in alignment with the Strategic Plan: World Changers Together.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7 / 8, £40,497 – £45,413 / £49,559 – £57,422 per annum.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week), and open ended.
