Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and skilled individual to lead art installations at M+. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Installations and Displays, you will manage a team of art technicians and collaborate with external contractors to ensure the safe handling, installation, lighting, packing, transport, and storage of artworks. The Installation team works closely with the Production team to ensure artworks are installed as per the exhibition schedule.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

1. Managing Art Installation Phases

Manage and coordinate key phases of art handling and installation for exhibitions.

2. Team Management

Recruit, supervise, train, and develop Art Technicians.
Oversee daily team operations, aligning values and goals with the museum.

3. Collaboration and Efficiency

Work closely with the exhibitions production team to build relationships, trust, and workflows for maximum efficiency.
Manage daily resources and assist in developing installation and budget plans.

4. Documentation and Safety

Collaborate with Registration teams to support collection management activities, ensuring accurate documentation.
Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety measures throughout the installation and (de)installation process.

5. Policy and Procedure Development

Assist the Senior Manager in creating policies and procedures for art handling and storage.

6. Facility Maintenance

Maintain order in workshops, equipment, materials, storage areas, and loading docks.

7. Safety Protocols

Liaise with other relevant departments to ensure compliance with safety protocols.

8. Ad Hoc Support

Provide ad hoc support to the supervisor when necessary.

Requirements

You should:

Possess a recognized university degree in art, design, museum studies, or related disciplines.
Have at least 8 years of experience in art handling or exhibition installation, with 3 years in a supervisory role.
Demonstrate strong project and resource management skills.
Have comprehensive knowledge of art handling and installation techniques, tools, and equipment.
Be experienced with budget tracking, procurement protocols, and systems.
Have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Be able to collaborate effectively in a diversified team and culture.
Possess good computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Understand 3D models and design drawings.
Have clear health and safety awareness regarding art handling.
Be willing to work irregular hours, weekends, and public holidays when necessary.
