What is Manifesta?
Manifesta rethinks the relationship between culture and society by catalyzing positive social change through contemporary culture in Europe. The biennial event, taking place in different European cities every two years since 1996, will be hosted in Barcelona in 2024.
About the Education and Mediation Programme
Manifesta’s Education and Mediation department plays a vital role in fostering connections with the host city. The program involves research-based projects with diverse local actors, focusing on making contemporary culture accessible to non-professional audiences. It combines research, artistic practice, pedagogy, mediation, and community work.
Job Description
Before the Biennial Opening:
- Assist in implementing Manifesta 15’s Education and Mediation program.
- Organize logistics for various education projects, including artistic workshops, teacher camps, and the Metropolitan working group.
- Support education collaborators in their research efforts.
- Establish collaborations with actors in mediation and community work.
- Coordinate the hiring and training of Manifesta 15 Mediators.
- Contribute to team-building and a productive work environment.
- Design and implement mediators’ training programs and research initiatives.
- Co-develop Manifesta 15’s mediation program with the Education team.
- Help reach various audiences for the mediation program.
During the Biennial:
- Manage the Manifesta 15 Mediators’ working schedule in collaboration with the Group Booking assistant.
- Serve as the main point of contact between Mediators and Manifesta 15 team.
- Develop and implement the evaluation system for the Mediation program.
- Initiate team-building activities.
- Handle logistics for the mediation program.
- Coordinate logistics for the community program.
- Ensure accessibility of information about Manifesta 15 mediation offers.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report audience feedback.
- Promote collaborative working spirit.
Candidate’s Profile
- Experience in organizing education, mediation, or socio-cultural projects.
- Familiarity with education, mediation, and community work practices in Barcelona.
- Critical understanding of mediation and community work practices in the Barcelona metropolitan region.
- Cultural or art mediation experience is a plus.
- Team management experience.
- Ability to build trust and form collaborations.
- Skill in engaging diverse audiences.
- Sensitivity to cultural and social differences.
- Self-starter with a proactive attitude and excellent workload prioritization.
- Team player.
- Fluent in English and Spanish, with Catalan as a plus.
Employment Conditions
- The Mediation Assistant must be based in Barcelona for the entire contract duration.
- Contract begins on November 1, 2023, and ends in December 2024.
- Applicants cannot combine this role with another job or occupation.
- The salary is 30,000 Euros gross per year.
