Introduction
The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and the Embassy of France are proud to present a new initiative: Reimagining Heritage, Archives and Museums: Today/Tomorrow. This project includes three main components: an international event in Cape Town, professional meetings in Johannesburg, and a comprehensive mentorship programme.
Mentorship Programme Details
This programme offers an exclusive skills-sharing and development opportunity. Participants will engage in both virtual and in-person sessions. These sessions are designed to enrich knowledge and facilitate network building in the heritage, archives, and museum sectors. The programme’s focus is on providing practical experience in event curation and coordination.
Eligibility
The programme is open to citizens of South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi. Ideal candidates are recent graduates or early-career professionals in the heritage, archive, museum, or cultural sectors, aged 20-29. Candidates should be available for travel and attendance at key events in Cape Town and Johannesburg in February 2024, and virtual sessions in January and March.
Programme Highlights
- January Virtual Learning: A mix of live and recorded sessions, along with reading materials.
- 13 – 15 February In-Person Learning in Cape Town: Engage with programmes, delegates, and activities.
- 19 – 21 February Professional Meetings in Johannesburg: Visit cultural institutions and heritage sites.
- March Virtual Debrief and Review Sessions.
Opportunities and Benefits
Successful applicants will gain insights from leading figures in the heritage, archive, and museum sectors. They will also have their travel and accommodation expenses covered and receive a stipend.
Application Process
Interested individuals from South Africa, Lesotho, or Malawi should submit their applications by 13 December 2023. Candidates should have a background or interest in writing, as they will be required to create content about the programme’s events.
