The British Museum is seeking a Monument Trust Curator of Contemporary Drawing to join the Prints and Drawings department. The main purpose of this role is to support the continuation of building the British Museum’s collection of contemporary graphics through engagement with donors and to undertake research to ensure they are publicly accessible in line with the Museum’s Operating Plan.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- To help raise money to support and undertake research projects on the collection.
- To make the collection, and knowledge about it, publicly accessible via exhibitions, publications, and digital and broadcasting means.
- To lead on up-grading the documentation of the collection.
- To support and improve the display of the collection, both on- and off-site
- To build the collection through acquisition via donation and purchase.
- To work as a team member with colleagues within and beyond the department and to assist with its day-to-day running.
- To collaborate with other institutions or groups and to develop good relations with relevant stakeholders.
- To assist with enquiries from the public in person, writing, telephone or email.
Person Specification:
- Educated to at least Bachelor’s Degree level in a relevant subject with some publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Experience of working first-hand with a contemporary prints and drawings collection and of management issues surrounding people, budgets and projects.
- Able to read one or more foreign languages as well as having knowledge of researching and publicising in scholarly articles and on social media alongside giving talks to varied audiences.
- An open and effective communicator with both good spoken and written English who can present in public in an engaging and accessible manner and has the ability to work as part of a team.
