Located in the Curatorial Office, Office of Art in Embassies Program (ART), Bureau of Overseas Building Operations (OBO).
Serves as a Museum Curator and reports to the Chief Curator and Director, Art in Embassies Program. The purpose of this position is to plan, schedule and conduct projects in the four areas of curation: research, exhibitions, development and management of collections, and public service.
Responsibilities
- Develops and directs a range of temporary visual arts exhibitions, permanent art collections and documentation of projects through publication or videography and outreach programs.
- Researches, develops, and proposes exhibition topics demonstrating an awareness of feasibility issues (e.g. loans, budget, safety and conservation of objects and publications); executes exhibition plans within strict timelines.
- Represents the office in meetings, lectures, and participates in professional conventions art fairs symposia and panel discussions, with both field experts and the public to promote publicity interests and objectives of the Program or other programs.
- Identifies works of art, negotiates the loans/commissions/sales, and oversees all stages of the process through the actual installation of art and/or production of the publication or video.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Have an undergraduate or higher level degree from an accredited college or university museum work; OR in an applicable subject-matter field;
OR
Have 4 years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown above;
OR
Have a combination of education and experience where my coursework was equivalent to a major, as shown above, PLUS appropriate experience OR additional education.
- Experience conducting research related to exhibitions and publications in various topics in American art and culture.
- Experience managing and developing visual arts exhibitions and permanent collections to promote artistic cultural heritage around the world.
