The Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel is seeking a Director for the Kunsthalle zu Kiel. The Kunsthalle is currently undergoing a comprehensive five-year renovation, which began in September 2023. The new Director will play a pivotal role in shaping this transformation.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement an engaging program during the renovation phase, as well as plan for the reopening of the renovated building.
- Oversee the ongoing renovation project, which has a total budget exceeding €50 million.
- Create a strategic and contemporary museum concept that includes high-profile special exhibitions, collection presentations, and comprehensive educational offerings, emphasizing cultural education, diversity, and inclusion.
- Maintain and expand regional, national, and international networks.
- Manage and acquire collections.
- Participate in board activities of the Kunsthalle zu Kiel e.V. and the Karl-Walter and Charlotte Breitling Foundation; serve as the managing director of the Schleswig-Holstein Art Association e.V., which has approximately 1,200 members.
Qualifications:
- A completed academic degree in art history, art studies, or a comparable field.
- Extensive curatorial experience and proven leadership in various museum-related areas, including exhibition planning and implementation, as well as collection management.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in personnel and budget responsibilities.
- Demonstrated success in securing third-party funding.
- Proficiency in English at a minimum of C1 level; fluency in at least one additional modern foreign language is desirable.
- A cooperative and integrative leadership style, high communication skills, and knowledge in change management.
- Experience with large-scale construction projects is advantageous.
- A doctoral degree is preferred.
