The Public Foundation “Regional Center for Fine Arts of Asturias” invites applications for the position of **Director of the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias** in Oviedo/Uviéu.

The museum promotes access to and engagement with the visual arts and aims to establish a sustainable model based on the values of **integrity, authority, and authenticity**. With over 15,000 works of art, it is one of Spain’s most significant provincial art institutions, featuring collections from figures such as Pedro Masaveu and Plácido Arango, and deposits from the Museo del Prado.

About the Position

  • Lead the artistic and administrative direction of the museum
  • Implement decisions from the Board of Governors and its President
  • Ensure safety and preservation of the cultural heritage housed in the museum
  • Manage and oversee all museum staff
  • Develop and execute artistic programs and special exhibitions
  • Manage acquisitions, conservation plans, and museum archives
  • Supervise the museum’s permanent collection and presentation strategies

Eligibility

  • Legally eligible to work in Spain and under 65 years of age
  • No physical or mental impediments to fulfilling the role
  • No prior disciplinary dismissal or disqualification from public service
  • University degree relevant to cultural management and art history (14th–21st centuries)

Required Experience

  • Leadership in cultural institutions or museums
  • Research experience in the arts
  • Proven record in curating temporary exhibitions
  • Expertise in Spanish, international, and Asturian art (14th–21st centuries)
  • Project management and experience in collaborative cultural networks
  • Strong background in budget, personnel, and fundraising management
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, both spoken and written

Selection Process

  • Conducted by a committee composed of:
    • Two members of the museum’s Board of Governors
    • Five external museum professionals
    • One secretary
  • Phase 1: Evaluation of submitted qualifications (max. 29.5 points)
  • Phase 2: Written submission of a project proposal for the museum’s direction (max. 30 points, min. 15 to pass)
  • Phase 3: Interview and presentation of the proposal (max. 20 points)
  • The selected candidate will be nominated by decree of the Government Council of the Principality of Asturias
