Institution: Studio Museum in Harlem
Location: New York, USA
Contract: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (minimum 35 hours per week)
Salary: $65,000 annually (with benefits)

The Studio Museum in Harlem, founded in 1968 as a leading hub for artists of African descent, is seeking a full-time Museum Educator. This role involves facilitating inquiry-driven tours, art-making workshops, and educational activations across schools, families, community programs, access initiatives, and adult audiences. The position also contributes to the development of on-site and digital resources, supporting deeper engagement with exhibitions and the museum’s permanent collection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead group tours and workshops that engage audiences with African diasporic and Black cultural art.
  • Collaborate with teachers, partners, and museum staff to develop and deliver educational sessions.
  • Co-facilitate professional development programs for Pre-K–12 educators.
  • Contribute to family, community, and public programs, as well as museum-wide events.
  • Develop in-gallery and online learning resources, including lesson plans, exhibition guides, alt text, and interpretive materials.
  • Assist with documentation, evaluation, and culminating partnership events.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art, Art History, Cultural Studies, Art Education, Creative Art Therapy, or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in museum or arts education, with program development and implementation responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of contemporary art and artists of African descent.
  • Skilled in inquiry-based teaching and adaptable to diverse audiences.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and commitment to the museum’s mission.
