Contemporary Art Museum of Panama (MAC Panamá) / Delfina Foundation
In partnership with the Contemporary Art Museum of Panama (MAC Panamá), Delfina Foundation welcomes applications from artists or curators from and based in Central America for a three-month residency in London.
This residency at Delfina Foundation will take place from 26 June to 15 September 2023.
The purpose of this residency is in part to inform a commissioned outcome with MAC Panamá, which the selected applicant will present at the institution in late 2023/early 2024.
Applicants to this specific residency should be deeply engaged with, and informed by, their local context and its concerns. Their practice should engage with historical, social, political, environmental, identarian, or any other subjects that address contemporary challenges faced in Central America, and develop critical approaches that can help understand our present times and imagine new narratives in the region.
During their residency in London, the practitioner will be supported by staff at Delfina Foundation and MAC Panamá to develop their research, which may include accessing local collections and archives, and will also be offered other opportunities to strengthen their practice and professional development in general. The practitioner is encouraged to consider how these opportunities in London can feed into the proposed commission to be developed at MACPanamá.
For the commission, the selected practitioner is welcome to engage with and respond freely to material from the MAC Panamá’s 60 year history, to work with the museum’s permanent collection, and/or any other materials related to the institution’s context. However, interest in engaging with this material is not the main determining factor in the selection process.
The research conducted by the selected practitioner during the residency should inform a public outcome, commissioned and produced by MAC Panamá. This outcome will be hosted at the institution in in late 2023 / early 2024. The commission may take the form of an exhibition, a public programme activity, a publication, or any other format agreed between the selected participant and the institution. The selected practitioner will be awarded a commissioning fee of 1000 USD for this, in addition to a production budget (the amount of which will be discussed and agreed with the selected practitioner).
The residency at Delfina Foundation includes:
- A return economy-class flight and airport transfers in the UK.
- Reimbursement of visa fee (if required).
- A living allowance of £30 per day.
- A materials budget of £750.
- Local travel pass for tubes and buses.
- A single bedroom at Delfina Foundation.
