OPEN CALL FOR COLLECTIVE RESEARCH RESIDENCY
Introduction
This call invites collectives to participate in a 2-month paid residency, which can be spread over five months. Ideally, groups should consist of five individuals. Here, we provide more details about the context and the framework of this residency.
Context and Mission
a.pass has hosted a co-learning environment for about 15 years, focusing on collaboration and transdisciplinarity. It stands for ‘advanced performance and scenography studies.’ Despite challenges such as losing financial support from the Flemish Ministry of Education, a.pass has embarked on a period of reflection and reorganization. This residency aims to rethink and rejuvenate collective artistic research practices.
Challenges and Future Directions
The end of certain programs at a.pass presents an opportunity to explore new ways of operating within the arts. This residency encourages participants to engage deeply with the concept of “lying fallow” as a state of rejuvenation. It seeks proposals from collectives to reimagine a.pass’s role and develop sustainable frameworks for the future.
Residency Details
The residency pays €5,000 per month per individual, with adjustments based on group size. Participants may also receive up to €1,000 per month for travel and accommodation expenses. A production budget of €2,000 is available, along with administrative and technical support. The residency locations may vary around Brussels, emphasizing the program’s nomadic nature.
Eligibility and Application Process
Collectives of three to ten members with experience in artistic research or related fields are encouraged to apply. The program values diverse perspectives and transdisciplinary approaches. Applicants must fill out a form detailing their vision, preferred timeline, and group composition.
Deadlines and Submission
There are three residency periods between September 2024 and August 2025, with specific calls for each. Applications must be submitted via an online form, and proposals can be presented in writing or through audio or video recordings.
