Application period: June 12 – July 12, 2019
The Kunstverein Dresden (Dresden Art Association) started in 2018 with the goal of sho- wing exponents of national and international contemporary art in Dresden and cons- tructively engaging with them. By exhibiting current curatorial and artistic approaches, we hope to open new perspectives on socially significant debates and discourses and handle themes relevant to Dresden in reference to them. We are currently inviting cu- rators to develop exhibitions for our 2020 program. The exhibitions should be themati- cally oriented, and they should demonstrate new and diverse ways of perceiving today’s socially important issues with corresponding artistic approaches.
Curators have the opportunity to conceive of exhibition projects, together with artists, which will be realized in our current project space at Neustädter Markt 8 in Dresden in 2020. Application deadline is July 12, 2019. The board and the advisory council will make the selection of curators and artists whom we invite to implement their exhibition pro- ject. With an acceptance of an exhibition project, we are inviting the selected curators to realize it in cooperation with us.
The application process is open to freelance curators/curatorial teams as well as those employed by an institution but not to artists, museums, galleries, and other commercial entities. The consent of the artist(s) involved in the exhibition project is a prerequisi- te. Applications for projects attached to institutions in a cooperative context will be considered.
Applicants should distinguish themselves through relevant curatorial experience and a clear idea of their own curatorial approach as well as possess an interest in Dresden as an exhibition location and its cultural, political and social contexts. They should be able to organize the exhibition from their place of residence and be in Dresden for the project phase of the exhibition and the opening. We require that the applicants under- take all the curatorial duties, write texts to accompany the exhibition, and be able to communicate in German or English on a high level.
In order to apply for the exhibition project, applicants must submit an application in German or English with the following parts:
-
Description of the exhibition project and a short description of the exhibition subject (max. 3000 characters with spaces)
-
List of the artists and works for the exhibition
-
