OPEN CALLS
apexart offers opportunities for artists, curators, and others to transform their curatorial concepts into apexart exhibitions. These ideas are selected through an online jury process involving apexart’s international community. Winners join apexart’s next exhibition season, receiving funding and staff support. apexart is not a granting organization; all exhibitions are part of its programming.
SUBMISSION
Submissions of a 500-word proposal for a focused, idea-driven, original group exhibition are welcome. People from all backgrounds, regardless of experience, can apply without any fees. Proposals for exhibitions anywhere in the world, except NYC, are accepted every February. Submissions for NYC exhibitions are open every October. For non-NYC exhibitions, applicants must choose a location they have visited, understanding the logistics and challenges. Submissions are accepted online during specified periods.
» Every February we accept proposals for exhibitions taking place anywhere in the world, except for NYC. The next proposal period is February 1 – March 1, 2024 for apexart’s 2024-25 program season.
SELECTION
An international jury of over 600 people from 70 countries participates in crowdsourced voting in November (for NYC Open Call) and March (for International Open Call). Jurors cast votes online for at least 50 proposals. apexart’s system ensures anonymity of submitters and equal exposure of all proposals. Projects are evaluated based on the strength of the idea and the ability to communicate it.
RESULTS
The highest-ranked proposals are selected, funded, and supported to become apexart exhibitions in NYC and globally. Winners are announced online after voting. apexart has increased its budget to $10,000 per Open Call exhibition. This covers various expenses, including a curator/organizer honorarium. apexart also provides insurance, advertising, and other support, closely working with curators to realize their exhibitions.
