For a period of up to four weeks, running in parallel with Frieze London, the chosen gallery will receive support to showcase the work of contemporary Brazilian artists.
Galleries, either on its own or as part of an association, are to submit proposals representing either an exhibition, an individual or a collective. The chosen proposal, selected by a curatorial committee of visual arts specialists and a representative from Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will have our main cultural space – Sala Brasil – at its disposal, free of charge. Located on the ground floor of the imposing Embassy building, the gallery is listed by Historic England and is just a stone’s throw from Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, in the heart of London. Furthermore, the chosen proposal will also receive financial support to the value of US$ 4,000.00 to help with the management and production of the exhibition.
All galleries can take part in BREEZE, Brazilian or otherwise, as long as they represent* contemporary Brazilian artists (or their estates, in the case of deceased artists). There are no restrictions on theme, number of works or formats/medium, but remember: the project’s objective is to strengthen Brazilian art in the international market.
Eligibility: BREEZE is open for the participation of any galleries from the primary sector representing Brazilian artists. Auction houses, galleries from the secondary market and individuals can participate, as long as they apply in association with a primary-market gallery.
What you get: The winning proposal, chosen by our select-committee of guest curators and cultural actors, will materialise as an exhibition to be held throughout October 2023 at Sala Brasil (the Embassy of Brazil’s main cultural space in London), without any charge for the use of the gallery and facilities, alongside US$ 4,000 (four thousand dollars) in support of production and management.
