Outreach and Education Curator: Concept, Strategy, and Implementation of the Brücke Museum’s Outreach

The Brücke-Museum is dedicated to the Expressionist artists’ group Brücke. It holds one of the largest collections of Brücke art and is the only art museum worldwide with this focus. As a museum initiated by artists, it seeks dialogue with contemporary artists. The Brücke-Museum develops current and critical perspectives on the collection through a socially relevant exhibition and education program, as well as through collaborations with other museums, research institutions, educational and social organizations.

At the Brücke-Museum, Bussardsteig 9, 14195 Berlin, starting immediately, permanent, for the following area of responsibility:

Concept, strategy, and implementation of the museum’s outreach / educational work (m/f/d)

Part-time employment is generally possible, taking official requirements into account.

Your responsibilities:

  • Concept, strategy, and implementation of the museum’s outreach / educational work;
  • collaborations with educational and social institutions as well as cultural actors, the local neighborhood, networking, societal issues and discourses;
  • conception, planning, and implementation of accompanying programs for respective exhibitions as well as educational programs;
  • further training and supervision of freelance art educators;
  • (partial) editing and proofreading as well as advising on visitor/exhibition texts;
  • advising on exhibitions regarding topics such as accessibility, visitor orientation, diversity, inclusion;
  • building and expanding networks with universities, schools, neighborhood initiatives, children’s and youth facilities;
  • conceiving exhibition- and collection-related programs and events as well as tools for participatory exploration of exhibition themes (e.g., hands-on stations, card sets);
  • communication of programs in close consultation with the Communications and Social Media department;
  • close collaboration with the Exhibitions, Collection, and Communications departments.

Notable special tasks: Training and supervision of a scientific outreach volunteer.

Your profile:

Formal requirements:
Completed academic university degree (Diploma, Master) with a focus on art history, art education, cultural studies, or equivalent, or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Subject-specific competencies:

  • Knowledge of discourses and practices in the fields of outreach, education, and mediation, as well as practical experience in the education/mediation field with diverse target groups and formats (interactive and participatory methods, media/digital offerings)
  • Knowledge and experience in linguistic mediation (interpretation area) as well as critical perspectives on discrimination and special forms and methods of communication
  • Knowledge of networking in the fields of outreach, education, community, inclusion
