The South African Friends of the Israel Museum (SAFIM) is pleased to announce our 2023, fully sponsored, Internship Programme at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. The Israel Museum is one of the largest multicultural institutions in the world.

Internship Description
Title: SAFIM Intern
Host museum: Israel Museum, Jerusalem
Duration: 3 months, April to July 2023
Hours: Full-time
Costs: Fully-sponsored and all-expenses paid, including a monthly stipend
Purpose of the Internship
SAFIM’s Annual Internship programme was launched in 2017, and has sent 6 Southern African graduates to the Israel Museum since.
The Programme aims to encourage professional experiences related to museum work, giving graduates an opportunity to gain experience in the museum space and form a significant foundation on which they are able to build a career.
Our past interns have returned to South Africa to find permanent employment in the industry at the likes of Zeitz MOCAA, Norval Foundation and the City of Cape Town.
Requirements and scope of internship
Candidates applying for the internship should have recently graduated with an Honours level degree in Curatorship, Art History or Fine Art.
The selected individuals will need to be comfortable with international travel and have a valid passport.
SAFIM Interns work with the Museum’s team of experts to complete a range of tasks within a number of departments, all relating to curatorship and museology. This includes:
- Collections management
- Digitisation
- Online collections
- Research and cataloguing
- Exhibition planning and installation
- Client liaison
- Proposal writing
- Museum Co-Ordination
- Museum education programmes
