The Pedantic Arts Residency (Pedantic) is seeking applicants for creatives and researchers to participate in the Summer 2026 and Fall 2026 Terms. Entering its fifth year of operations, Pedantic continues its mission of re-embracing the impact that education, study, and contemplation can have on artistic output by interconnecting creators, organizers, and critics. As the program seeks new residents whose practices engage visual arts, curating, and writing, this unique opportunity invites rich cross-disciplinary dialogue and collective, exploratory immersion within Pittsburgh’s artistic and cultural landscape.
The Pedantic Arts Residency…
- Runs for a period of four weeks.
- Occurs two times a year during the months of January and June.
- Is located on Penn Avenue in the midst of one of Pittsburgh’s largest and most bustling art hubs.
- Provides each resident with a free bedroom at the Pedantic Apartment, a $2,000 honorarium to be used at the resident’s discretion, and assistance with establishing relevant connections to individuals and organizations key to the research goals.
- Entails weekly programming including but not limited to private dinners, studio visits, and museum tours. Many of these will be open to members of the larger public or specific invited guests, while others will be reserved as special opportunities just for the cohort.
- Assigns each resident a Pittsburgh-based guide working in a similar field who will help connect the resident to relevant activities, resources, and local professional contacts.
- Does not require a final deliverable. Pedantic prioritizes immersion over production.
- Is only available to creatives living outside of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh-based creatives are not eligible to apply and are encouraged to visit the “Get Involved” page to learn more and connect.
