The Institute of Art History (IAH) in Zagreb is a public research institution dedicated to the study of the history and theory of Croatian visual arts, with a branch in Split. As a member of the International Association of Research Institutes in the History of Art (RIHA), IAH conducts fundamental and applied research on art phenomena, monuments, and significant personalities within Croatia, while situating this heritage in national, regional, and European contexts.
Project Overview
This postdoctoral position is part of the ERC-funded Consolidator Grant project: “Right to Housing: the Production of Spaces of Everyday Life in Yugoslavia (1945–1991)” (Housing.Yu ERC-CoG No. 101171985). The project investigates the production of mass housing in socialist Yugoslavia across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia, combining interdisciplinary research on policies, urban planning, architecture, contractors, and citizen participation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research in art history focusing on architectural and urban discourse of housing
- Contribute to archival work and digital data management
- Publish research findings and participate in academic activities, including conferences
- Collaborate with project team members under the supervision of Dr. Sc. Tamara Bjažić Klarin, M.Arch.
Qualifications
- PhD in Art History
- Relevant research experience in art history, architecture, or urban studies
- Fluent in English
- Motivation and prior academic achievements advantageous
- Basic knowledge of additional European languages desirable (e.g., German, French, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Polish, Swedish, Dutch, Danish)
- For foreign applicants: intermediate knowledge of Croatian or a related language (Slovenian, Serbian, Bosnian, Macedonian, Montenegrin)
