The Department of Prof. Dr. Tristan Weddigen at the Bibliotheca Hertziana offers predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships for the 2026/27 academic year. Projects should address the overarching theme Art of the Modern Age in a Global Context, with possible focus areas including Rome Contemporary, Materiality and Mediality, Italy in a Global Context, Transnational History of Art History, and Digital Visual Studies.
Fellowship Format

Duration: 3–12 months (extensions may be requested through a new application, but total duration cannot exceed 12 months).

Activities: Fellows join a group of junior scholars, actively participate in departmental research activities, and develop an independent research project.
Eligibility Criteria / Required Skills

Early career scholars at predoctoral or postdoctoral level.

Ability to develop a research project within the department’s thematic priorities.

Strong academic writing and research skills.
Outcome
Successful applicants will be awarded a fellowship, participate in departmental research activities, and contribute to the intellectual community of the Bibliotheca Hertziana.
