Job Overview:

The House of European History (HEH) is seeking a Preventive Conservation & Collection Manager Assistant Leaderto support its Collections Department. This position focuses on safeguarding collections, supporting exhibitions, and implementing conservation strategies that meet international museum standards. The role involves preventive conservation, facility analysis, exhibition planning, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure collections’ long-term preservation and accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preventive Conservation: Perform regular condition checks, maintain storage and display environments, and implement restoration projects when required.
  • Collections Management: Use MuseumPlusRIA for acquisitions, documentation, and photography, ensuring efficient collection handling and storage management.
  • Exhibition Planning: Provide technical input for display designs, analyze materials, and assist with the installation and de-installation of exhibitions across Europe.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development of internal conservation and collections management procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work with internal teams and external contractors to meet conservation and exhibition goals effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years in preventive conservation.
    • At least 2 years in collections management within a museum setting.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in conservation techniques and exhibition preparation.
    • Proficiency in MuseumPlusRIA or similar systems.
    • Strong communication skills in English and one additional European language.
    • Collaborative mindset, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
