Art and cultural practitioners from Southeast Asia who facilitate or organize art and cultural events/projects are invited to apply.

Program Overview

The Professional Exchange Program supports art and cultural practitioners from Southeast Asia. They will have a multi-week visit and exchange in Taiwan. This program is hosted by individuals or organizations with relevant experience. The program aims to help practitioners develop their personal and professional goals. Participants also contribute to Taiwan’s art community by sharing observations and suggestions.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  1. Be facilitators or organizers of art and cultural events/projects.
  2. Be from Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia).
  3. Have at least two years of experience in arts and culture.
  4. Be interested in exploring Taiwan’s art and culture ecosystem.
  5. Be comfortable sharing reflections or experiences publicly through writing.
  6. Have published articles related to arts and culture.

Program Benefits

The program offers:

  • Accommodation (Studio/shared creative space).
  • Local transportation fee (up to NT2000 for 15 days).
  • A round-trip economy class ticket.
  • NT$6,000 per month for living expenses.
  • NT$16,000 for written creation.
  • Visits to cultural sites.

Participant Responsibilities

Participants are required to:

  • Present at the 2024 Res Artist Conference and TASA Annual Meeting.
  • Attend consultation meetings on cultural policies organized by TAEF and the Yushan Forum.
  • Produce a 1.5-page article in English about the Taiwan Art-in-Residence scene.
  • Produce a 2-page article in English in response to Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy.
  • Participate in one workshop.

Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation (TAEF)
Founded in 2018, TAEF is Taiwan’s first policy-oriented think tank focused on Southeast Asian and South Asian affairs. It promotes comprehensive ties between Taiwan and ASEAN countries, South Asian countries, Australia, and New Zealand.

Taiwan Art Space Alliance (TASA)
Established in 2016, TASA integrates art villages and spaces across Taiwan. It holds regular meetings to discuss the role of artists in residence and aims to improve the art and culture environment in Taiwan.

Partners

Mekong Cultural Hub (MCH)
MCH empowers cultural practitioners in the Mekong Region, connecting over 150 practitioners since 2018 for professional exchange and collaboration.

Hyper Wave (Yilan)
Located in Luodong City, Hyper Wave is a contemporary art exhibition and residency space. It aims to enhance Yilan’s international connections and bring in artists to engage in artistic dialogues.
