University professorship „ Diaspora Aesthetics “
acc. § 98 University Act 2002 for the subject „ Diaspora Aesthetics “ at the Institute for Art and Cultural Studies ( IKW ) of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in full employment from October 1st, 2024 initially limited to 5 years. The focus of the IKW is on critical studies in the context of contemporary art, gender studies, postcolonial studies, sociology, aesthetic theory, art history and media science.
The advertised position addresses interested parties in all disciplines that deal with globalization, flight and migration, exile and diaspora in the context of art, everyday and popular culture as well as social movements. The field of responsibility includes teaching and research including supervision of diploma / MA theses and dissertations as well as participation in the further development of the master’s course in critical studies and in university self-administration.
Employment requirements:
– a completed Austrian or international university or. University education or equivalent academic qualification
– excellent scientific qualification for the subject to be filled „ Diaspora Aesthetics “, which is designed across disciplines
– a qualified research profile ( relevant international publications, conference contributions, etc. ) as well as experience in writing research applications
– Pedagogical and didactic suitability as well as several years of teaching experience, preferably in the higher education sector
– Relevant international networking and non-university practice
– Competence for discursive development and reflection of the arts as part of the research and teaching activities of the academy
– Willingness to work closely with the IKW
– Willingness to participate in the committees of university self-government
– very good knowledge of German and / or English as well as the willingness to learn the other language
– Competence critical of gender and discrimination
Desired qualifications:
– Expertise in theories of the diaspora, de- and post-colonial art and cultural studies
– Knowledge of current artistic and art-theoretical forms of discourse and practice
The teaching obligation includes courses of at least 8 lessons per week.
The gross monthly salary according to the collective agreement for employees: within the universities in salary group A1 is currently EUR 5,826.5. Willingness to pay KV over – depending on the qualification profile – is available.
