Duties and Responsibilities
The Slade School of Fine Art is an art school where staff and students approach contemporary art practice, and the history and theories that inform it through experimentation, imagination and research-oriented practice.
We are inviting applications for the full time post of Professor in Fine Art and Head of the Doctoral Programme. They will lead the Slade PhD programme: provide direction and vision, maintain and develop its cross-disciplinary ethos, and ensure its smooth running as central to the School, staff research and Slade research priorities.
This appointment is available from October 2021 and we are open to a January 2022 start.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate will have a national and international research profile and be a practising artist engaged with the practices and discourses of fine art in its broadest sense.
They will hold a PhD in Fine Art or have equivalent doctoral supervisory experience. They will have a commitment and enthusiasm for supportive and enabling teaching which fosters a positive learning environment. They will be actively engaged in debates concerning non-canonical approaches to art practice, the decolonisation of thought and art practice and diversity within contemporary art. They will have experience of academic leadership with a proven ability to lead, develop and motivate colleagues.
