Professorship in Contemporary Art History and Art Theory, Freie Universität Berlin

The Department of History and Cultural Studies Institute of Art History invites applications for a Professorship in Contemporary Art History and Art Theory focusing on Modern and Contemporary Art.

The successful applicant will be required to cover the area named above in research and teaching.

Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).

Candidates must have international teaching experience and excellent research activities in the field of Contemporary Art History and Art Theory focusing on Modern and Contemporary Art including a cultural and transcultural perspective. She or he will deal with current discourses in theory. Experience with interdisciplinary fields is required as well as with third party funding.

The appointee will cooperate with colleagues of the local collections, museums, and academic institutions. She or he will participate in the research initiatives of the university (such as the Kolleg-Forschergruppe ‘BildEvidenz’, the research unit Transkulturelle Verhandlungsräume von Kunst) and the Focus Areas. The successful candidate will show a special interest in teaching and a motivated participation in the departmental service.
