The University of Duisburg-Essen is inviting applications for a Professorship in Modern and Contemporary Art History/Art Studies (W2). The appointed professor will represent the field of art history from the modern period to the present with a focus on visual culture and cultural studies, in both research and teaching. The role includes delivering courses across all programs offered by the department.
The successful candidate is expected to have research experience in global or transcultural aspects of art history, with a track record of publications in high-ranking, peer-reviewed academic journals. Experience in securing third-party research funding for competitive projects, ideally through the German Research Foundation (DFG), is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and conduct research in modern and contemporary art history, with a focus on visual culture.
- Contribute to all study programs in the department.
- Conduct research projects with a global or transcultural focus.
- Publish in top-tier academic journals.
- Secure third-party funding for research, with a preference for DFG-funded projects.
- Demonstrate teaching concepts that align with the profile of the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Requirements:
- Qualifications in accordance with § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW).
Contract Duration: Permanent
