Lalela provides educational arts for youth from underserved communities to spark creative thinking and awaken the entrepreneurial spirit. Lalela is at the forefront of art education in South Africa and is searching for a full-time Programme Development Manager who is passionate about youth development through the arts to join the team, based in Hout Bay, Cape Town.
Purpose of Job:
To carry out and oversee the programmatic development and design of art-based curriculum, to ensure desired outcomes and critical messaging to all Lalela Programmes. To manage Lalela events and special partnerships.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Programmatic Management and Design
Managing Arts-based Curriculum by:
- Development and design of all arts-based programmes in line with the Lalela methodology; including after school and in school programmes, holiday programmes and external programmes;
- Work collaboratively with external partners and stakeholders to develop special programming;
- Overseeing Curriculum Writing Team;
- Editing and approving curriculum for all Lalela programmes for all age groups (grades 1-12);
- Train facilitators in implementation of arts-based curriculum;
- Together with Executive Director develop and design training manuals for extended outreach programmes that roll out Lalela’s flagship curriculums.
Management of Events and Student Outings
Coordination of events by:
- Conceptualise and plan Lalela events in the Western Cape;
- Manage and oversee logistics and budgets for all Lalela Events and student outings in the Western Cape;
- Liaise with external partners and stakeholders;
- Create programmatic and marketing materials for Lalela Events.
Programme Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation
Programme Management Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation by:
- Preparation and submission of termly management report;
- Contribute to the Lalela Newsletter;
- Assist in the M&E of Lalela curriculum together with M&E manager.
The Programme Development Manager must meet the following Requirements:
- Experience in arts-based programme design and curriculum writing is essential.
- Have a strong knowledge of facilitation methodology and experiential learning.
- Graduate or postgraduate degree in relevant field of study e.g. Visual Art Education/Teaching, Art History and/or Fine art in the creative art or design industry. (Candidates need to have experience in visual art education – This is not a performing art or dance based organisation).
- Minimum of three years’ experience working within the field of art education.
- Proven ability to conceptualise, plan and execute ideas as well as transfer knowledge and skills to members and partners of Lalela.
- Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form.
- Experience in project management and event planning.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and strong writing and communication skills.
- Previous work experience in the (South African) NGO or Youth Development sector is advantageous.
- Basic design skills are advantageous.
- Computer literacy – Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Docs is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills over email, by phone and in person.
- Ability to work on tight deadlines and to prioritize a complex workload.
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and show initiative.
