Warwick Arts Centre is recruiting a Programme Director to play a lead role in realising the Arts Centre’s mission: ”To be a world class venue that inspires people through the arts, culture, entertainment and learning”. Currently, the programme team consists of a mix of in-house and freelance programmers and producers programming theatre, live art, dance, music (all genres), comedy, a live family focussed programme, film and visual art.

The Programme Director will provide inspirational leadership on artistic programming and lead the next stage of development of this team. This will include ensuring close integration of audience development, programming and marketing, delivering both mainstream and innovative programmes of excellence in all art forms that grow audiences and show considerable commercial flair.

DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programme delivery, management and development

To lead on the strategic development, management and delivery of Warwick Arts Centre’s artistic programme across all programme strands and artistic disciplines, fulfilling the stated aims of the organisation.

In undertaking this role the following will be crucial:

• Close collaboration with the Director.

• Effective leadership of the Programming team of six staff.

• Knowledge, impact and maintenance of positive relationships with artists, their agents, companies and peers in the artistic community.

• Working with all in house programmers, freelance producers, contracted programme providers, student societies and venue hirers, to ensure all aspects of the programme form an integrated whole and are communicated effectively across the organisation.

• Negotiation of financial deals and contracts with visiting companies, promoters, artists, internal University users etc, including the agreement of fees, royalties, technical and marketing costs.

• Working with all programmers to maximise productivity and achieve income targets.

• Ensuring that all contractual arrangements properly support the revenue activities of other departments e.g. FOH, technical, fundraising, marketing.

• Drafting event proposal budgets; undertaking financial scoping exercises including ticket pricing, realistic income targets, and estimation of costs to test viability of projects. Managing all event budgets and ensuring tight budgetary control and that targets are achieved.

• Representing Warwick Arts Centre’s artistic ambitions as appropriate for a, regionally, nationally and internationally recognised venue.

• Continuous strategic development of Warwick Arts Centre’s programme and artistic ambitions within the context of the challenges thrown up by today’s artists and audiences.

• Working closely with the Marketing Director to develop and agree strategies for maximising audience attendance at events.

• In close liaison with the Marketing Director, ensuring appropriate programming and marketing strategies are in place to develop audiences among underrepresented groups within the current audience base.

• Working with the Marketing Director to ensure audience development, marketing and programming combine to deliver the optimum artistic experience for audiences and income generation for the Arts Centre.

General

• Working with the Director and Director of Planning and Operations to develop the ongoing strategic direction of Warwick Arts Centre.

• Implementing efficient departmental administrative systems and overseeing these in order to ensure that the programme department sets and maintains deadlines and targets and disseminates information efficiently to other internal departments.

• Leading, motivating and supporting programme staff.

• Controlling and managing programme income and expenditure budgets.

• Working within University financial regulations, policies and procedures.
