Role Details
Reports to: Head of Programme
Responsible for: Assistant Curators, Trainees, Interns
Curatorial and Exhibition Management
- Lead and manage multiple major exhibitions and projects, including commissions and loans.
- Coordinate all aspects of delivery, including artist relations, scheduling, production, fabrication, and installation.
- Ensure the balance between artistic vision, support for artists, and adherence to schedules and budgets.
- Contribute to the research, organization, and planning of the Biennial exhibition.
- Manage public realm commissions and obtain necessary permissions and licenses.
- Oversee international and national shipments, prioritizing sustainability.
- Assist in exhibition layout planning and scheduling.
- Collaborate with the Curator of Learning to develop a creative learning program.
- Write exhibition texts and captions.
- Develop maintenance plans for exhibitions and artworks.
- Foster clear communication with Marketing, Development, Operations, and Finance teams.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on production matters.
- Liaise with artists, institutions, partners, and funders.
Finance and Administration
- Convene and document meetings.
- Organize site visits and research trips.
- Efficiently manage exhibition and project budgets.
- Assist with Health and Safety measures.
- Assist with visa applications and UK entry paperwork.
- Administer contracts using Liverpool Biennial templates.
- Contribute to reports for Trustees, funders, and partners.
- Provide information, budgets, and proposals for funding applications.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications for program promotion.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Advocate for sustainable practices.
- Contribute to project evaluations.
Advocacy
- Build networks and liaise with stakeholders, partners, and funders.
- Welcome and host artists and stakeholders.
- Represent the Biennial at public events and meetings.
- Occasionally work evenings and weekends.
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in managing contemporary art projects.
- Knowledge and passion for contemporary art.
- Experience with new commissions and large-scale projects.
- Analytical, creative, and solution-focused.
- Budget management experience.
- Staff recruitment and leadership skills.
- Experience with diverse partners and stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability.
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of Liverpool and the north-west region.
- Experience with biennials, festivals, or non-traditional arts venues.
