The Musée du Louvre is a public administrative institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, comprising the Musée National du Louvre, the Musée National Eugène Delacroix, the Tuileries Garden, the Louvre’s plaster cast gallery in Versailles, and a conservation center located in Liévin. In accordance with amended Decree No. 92-1338 of 22 December 1992, the Musée du Louvre is tasked, in particular, with conserving, protecting, restoring on behalf of the State, and presenting to the public the works in the collections listed in the inventories of the Musée du Louvre and the Musée National Eugène Delacroix, as well as works placed on deposit in the Tuileries Garden; with ensuring, in the museums and gardens it encompasses and by any appropriate means, the reception of the widest possible public, increasing attendance, promoting knowledge of their collections, and implementing educational and outreach activities to ensure equal access for all to culture; with ensuring the scholarly study of its collections; with contributing to education, training, and research in the fields of art history, archaeology, and museography; and with managing an auditorium. To accomplish its missions, the Musée du Louvre cooperates notably with public authorities and public- or private-law bodies, French or foreign, pursuing objectives aligned with its vocation.
The Musée du Louvre’s teams (approximately 2,300 staff) also contribute to the cultural programming of the Louvre-Lens and the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The Directorate of Museum Studies and Research Support (DEMAR) aims to strengthen research policy at the Musée du Louvre through two main missions: coordinating the implementation of research support policy serving the museum’s departments and research units; and guiding the development of research projects on museum studies. It thus contributes to the museum’s influence nationally and internationally.
The Research Support Service (SAR) is responsible for supporting the museum’s scholarly community, developing and implementing a program of scholarly meetings at the Dominique-Vivant Denon Center, coordinating and monitoring partnerships with other research institutions, and facilitating the hosting of external researchers.
General Mission
Under the authority of the Director of Museum Studies and Research Support (DEMAR), the Head of the Research Support Service (SAR), and in liaison with the project coordinator within the SAR and the advisor in charge of coordinating scholarly programming within the Directorate-General, the Programming and Production Officer (M/F) will be responsible for contributing to the effective implementation of DEMAR’s programming, production, and organization, and will ensure effective communication of DEMAR events, both in terms of content and logistics.
Activities
Programming
Implement programming that is both scholarly and accessible to the museum’s audiences, within the framework of the general programming of the Musée du Louvre public institution, for evening events at the Dominique-Vivant Denon Center (CDVD).
To this end:
- Prospect, make programming proposals to the Head of the SAR, and consider expanding the offer,
- Ensure the implementation at the CDVD of recurring, museum-produced public events,
- Work to strengthen audience diversity, in conjunction with the project coordinator—particularly students, early-career researchers, and museum professionals—by developing partnerships with national and international cultural and academic institutions,
- Coordinate programming for events on museum studies in liaison with the Louvre Auditorium Directorate and, where applicable, with other partner institutions (Louvre-Lens, Louvre Abu Dhabi, etc.),
- Oversee programming and monitoring, in liaison with the project coordinator, of exhibition projects at the CDVD and/or in spaces dedicated to museum studies,
- Conduct professional cultural monitoring.
Production
Actively participate in the logistical preparation of DEMAR events, in liaison with the project coordinator within the SAR:
- Create and maintain a general calendar of DEMAR events,
- Produce financial and technical feasibility assessments for events,
- Estimate, develop, and manage the overall and annual event budget,
- Ensure the budgetary, scheduling, and administrative management of each event,
- Develop procedures and tools for managing these events,
- Ensure effective communication about events both within and outside the institution,
- Manage invitations and participant lists,
- Arrange and host speakers and the public,
- Organize logistical services related to events,
- Prepare rooms,
- Organize appropriate recording/filming for events that require it.
Desired Profile
- Significant experience in programming and producing cultural and artistic events.
- Strong knowledge of art history with experience in conducting a research project (or Master’s degree [M2] with at least five years’ experience).
- Ability to lead projects.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Proficiency in budgetary, scheduling, and administrative management for cultural projects.
- Excellent writing skills essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills and public speaking ability.
- Experience in negotiating partnerships.
- Knowledge of communication tools.
- Knowledge of the administrative, legal, and financial environment (regulations, procedures, stakeholders, etc.) of public cultural institutions and the Ministry of Culture.
- Knowledge of procedures related to public procurement, public finances, public accounting.
- Knowledge of health and safety rules.
- Proficiency in English (another foreign language desired).
